On 12 November 2024, CECA Southern, in conjunction with Richard Patterson, Procurement and NEC Specialist, Mott MacDonald ran a webinar explaining the X29 clause, its purpose and its relevance to current and future infrastructure projects.
The X29 clause within the NEC contract is a relatively new addition designed to address key aspects of infrastructure projects, particularly related to sustainability, climate change, and carbon reduction. Understanding and effectively implementing this clause is important for members that find it included in future contracts. Despite its name ‘Climate Change’ X29 can be used to set targets for anything – carbon, biodiversity net gain, social value, whole life cost, etc.
