Join the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) on 14 June at Seawork for their Conference Session focused on ‘Understanding the Power of Tidal Projects for Marine Civils’.
Speakers include:
• Stuart Murphy, founder & inventor of TPGen24
• David Cooper, Regional Partnership Manager; Clean Maritime ORE Catapult
• Capt. Martin Willis, Executive Officer for the UK Harbour Masters’ Association (UKHMA)
Martin Willis, Executive Officer of the UK Harbour Masters’ Association (UKHMA), will provide his insight on offshore / nearshore projects and highlight the importance of engaging with the Statutory Harbour Authority and the Harbour Master for the necessary information, guidance, and approvals.
Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult – the UK’s leading technology innovation and research centre for offshore renewable energy – will be represented by David Cooper. David works with organisations across the country with innovative offerings in the sector, with a particular focus on maritime decarbonisation.
Providing a general market update for offshore renewables, he will subsequently focus on marine energy – in particular tidal stream – which now has ringfenced access to Contracts for Difference (CfDs), the Government’s primary method of supporting renewable energy. David will then highlight some of the work ORE Catapult have published on the energy system benefits of tidal stream and the opportunity it presents for the future energy system.
Highlighting the TPGen24 project, Stuart Murphy will outline how the next leap forward in renewable energy has been designed to operate in sync with the rise and fall of the tide, and through smart controls. Designed to be located at least 1km offshore, this high yield renewable power plant can perpetually produce green energy for years to come.
Taking place on 14 June Seawork visitors are invited to join this free to attend session from 11:00 – 13:00 in Conference Room 2.

Peter Crosland, National Civil Engineering Director for CECA stated:
“CECA is again delighted to be supporting the Seawork Marine Civils event in Southampton in June. CECA views the exhibition as key to signposting marine activities to the wider industry and to this end have put together a really exciting list of speakers who will present on ‘Understanding the Power of Tidal Projects’.
The presentations will bring together hugely innovative ideas together with the practical applications and challenges of working in the marine environment. This session is a must for those who have any interest in developing sustainable power sources from our oceans!”.
