The CECA North East Foundations Group aims to promote the civil engineering and construction industry to current and future generations and engage with other like-minded engineering and construction professionals, companies, organisations and groups who wish to attract young people into our industry.

The CECA North East Foundations Group members are:
Co-Chair Ben Adcock
Ben began by attaining work experience with Gateshead Council’s civil division, as well as some experience with a design house. Inspired by this, he went on to study a Civil Engineering degree at Newcastle University. His first position in the industry was as a Site Engineer, and has since progressed on to become a Lead Temporary Works Coordinator.
Co-Chair Matthew Tetley
Matthew got an apprenticeship at the age of 18 in Quantity Surveying, resulting in a BSc from Northumbria University.
Vice Chair Lauren Parsons
Lauren began her journey in an apprenticeship in Highways Maintenance Design, which led her to a role as an Apprentice Design Technician. She now works as a project manager at Mason Street Furniture (MSF).
Immediate Past Chair Lewis Hughes
Lewis achieved two degrees in adjacent fields but pivoted into civil engineering as a Business Developer Assistant. He now works in a managerial role as a Business Developer and plans to keep climbing.
Lucy Youlton
Lucy started as an apprentice at Esh Group when she was age 18 as an Apprentice Social Value Coordinator. She is currently studying a Level 3 Business Administration qualification at New College Durham and hopes to progress onto a degree apprenticeship. She enjoys sharing her experience in the construction industry and encouraging young people to consider it as a career.
Olivia Bell
Olivia is currently undertaking a degree apprenticeship in Construction Quantity Surveying at Northumbria University. She is extremely passionate about developing her industry knowledge and connections. Moreover, she is enthusiastic about sharing her experience with other students considering entering the world of construction
David Dunbar
David began his career with BAM Nuttall, completing an NVQ level 3 and BTEC level 3 course. This led him to pursue a Quantity Surveying degree apprenticeship. He is now a Senior Quantity Surveyor and is on the APC pathway to become chartered.
Aaron Drummond
Aaron completed a Civil Engineering apprenticeship with BAM Nuttall, which led him to become an Assistant Engineer. He has since worked up to the position of Senior Estimator.
Kaif Dad
Kaif undertook an Engineering degree apprenticeship, which led to him becoming an Apprentice Land Surveyor, and then an Engineering Survey Technician. He now works as an Site Engineer with Costain Group PLC.
Luke Morrissey
An opportunity arose for Luke to start an apprenticeship as a Highways Technician. He went on to study a Level 3 and 4 in Construction in the Built Environment, followed by a Civil Engineering degree. He began in the workplace as an Apprentice Highways Technician, but now works in the capacity of a Highways Technician.

Joe Mylan
Joe Mylan used to work in urban planning but was looking for a career change. His first step into the industry was through a master’s degree in Quantity Surveying. His first role in the industry was as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor for an HV/LV electrical contractor, but now works as a Graduate Quantity Surveyor.
Megan Lambert

Megan undertook work experience as a Quantity Surveyor, and after she attained her driving licence, she studied as a Quantity Surveyor Apprentice. She now works full time in the capacity of a Quantity Surveyor.
Chloe Gooding

Chloe undertook work experience in the civil engineering industry in her final year at secondary school with Seymour Civil Engineering Ltd. Once she graduated from her Bachelor’s degree in Business with Marketing Management at Northumbria University, she returned to Seymour Civil Engineering Ltd and currently works there in the capacity of Marketing Coordinator.
Matthew Jameson
Matthew started by studying a BEng in Civil Engineering, then completed an MSc in Civil Engineering and Construction Management, and graduated as a Graduate Civil Engineer in September 2021. Matthew progressed quickly, and currently works as a Project Leader with JN Bentley.
Rob Loveridge
Rob studied Geography at Newcastle University before going on to spend 7 years working as a hotel manager. After the COVID pandemic he was looking for a career change and put himself through a Quantity Surveying MSc at Northumbria University in 2021 while working part time. He graduated with Distinction in 2023 and took his first role as a Graduate QS with JN Bentley, where he now works as a QS
Amelia Bewick
Amelia Bewick is studying and working a degree apprenticeship as a Trainee Cost Manager within the infrastructure segment of Turner & Townsend. As part of her degree apprenticeship, she is also studying quantity surveying at Northumbria.
Adam Tattersall
Adam is an Apprentice Planning Engineer at VolkerStevin, currently working on the New Wear Footbridge project in Sunderland. A second-year Civil Engineering student at Northumbria University, he plays a key role in managing project programmes for both VolkerStevin and VolkerGround Engineering. Adam is also responsible for creating innovative 3D and 4D visualisations, helping to bring complex projects to life.
